Several years ago, Grace Lutheran’s roof was improperly repaired, causing major water damage and mold growth that would need to be repaired and remediated before our school could open this fall. However, the problem has unfortunately been in legal and financial limbo ever since, necessitating the search for a new location for our school. Thanks be to God, we can now announce that we have another place to call home: Immanuel Lutheran Church (909 S. Market St). Immanuel has a large and secure building featuring numerous classrooms, a beautiful sanctuary, a gym with a stage, a choir/music room, kitchens, an interior courtyard, space for school lockers, and more, conveniently located just off Kellogg. We are grateful to Immanuel's council and congregation, and to our Headmaster, Dan Snyder, for their gracious support.
We also want to thank Grace Lutheran for opening their facilities to us for the last 5 years. Without their support, Concordia Academy probably wouldn’t have gotten off the ground. Please continue to pray for their roof situation, that God would provide the best solution for their congregation.

For more information, contact us through the "contact" page or give us a call. ![]() We are so excited to announce that we have a Headmaster: Mr. Dan Snyder! Mr. Snyder is a man of many talents and abilities and is passionate about classical Lutheran education. With a background of copious education and life experiences, as you see in his bio below, Concordia Academy will be in very good and capable hands. As we prepare to open our 9th grade this fall, and begin our enrollment of new students, we invite you to join us at our Open House on Saturday, February 12 from 10am-12pm. There you will be able to meet Mr. Snyder, tour the facilities, and ask any questions you may have. Again, please join us in thanking God and welcoming Mr. Snyder to Concordia Academy! Dan Snyder is a teacher, a former Marine, video game designer, international classical singer, and professional church musician. His work has been featured and reviewed in Wired magazine, PCgamer, on the Discovery Channel as well as in Opera News and the Kurt Weill Newsletter and many other publications. Transitioning from the USMC as an air traffic controller and computer programmer to the U.S. Army Chorus, he performed regularly at the White House. Mr Snyder’s educational background includes time as a training designer with the American Red Cross as well as the US Marine Corps Training and Education Command in Quantico, Va, and later as a contractor with various defense agencies. He has studied at Bryan College, George Mason University, Mannes Conservatory of Music, and did graduate work at The New School in New York City, where he also holds a certificate in screen writing from the film school. Mr Snyder taught logic, great books, and rhetoric at the Classical School of Wichita beginning in 2013, having relocated to Wichita from New York City. His educational pursuits, which include a focus in several languages, continue with the completion of graduate studies in classical Christian education at New Saint Andrews College. He and his wife Tracee, a professional musician, are members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Happy New Year! We hope and pray that 2022 will be a momentous year for Concordia Academy, as we continue working towards opening our doors to ninth graders this fall and providing the next generation of high schoolers with a quality education oriented towards wisdom and virtue in Christ.
Towards that end, we are planning an informal come-and-go open house on Saturday, February 12th, from 10am to 12pm on our campus. While this event will kick off our official enrollment period, it is open to all families with any level of interest in the school, even if you’re not sure your child will attend Concordia, or if your child isn’t yet old enough to attend this fall. Members of the board of directors will be available to talk with you, answer questions, and share information, and you will be able to see our facilities at Grace Lutheran church. We also have some exciting news to share for those considering enrolling their child in ninth grade at Concordia Academy this fall. Thanks to the financial support we’ve received so far, we’re able to make a number of generous scholarships worth half to full tuition ($3,000 to $6,000) available for the 2022-2023 school year! It is our hope that these scholarships will enable more families to choose a Lutheran high school education for their child, as we know that the financial aspect of school choice can be a struggle for many. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We hope to see many of you on February 12th! What happens when we send our children off to school? For almost eight hours a day, five days a week, and thirteen years of their life, are they being given an example of faithfully hearing the Word, receiving the Sacrament, and calling upon God with prayer, praise, and thanksgiving? Or is it a different pattern and a different formation?
It is clear that reformation is needed in the way American children are educated—and at the heart of it, the goal(s) they are being educated towards. Will you join us in being part of this reformation? Please consider a donation to Concordia Academy on Giving Tuesday, November 30th. We are a 501(c)(3) organization and a Recognized Service Organization (RSO) of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Yesterday, Concordia Academy's board of directors formally voted to extend a call to a headmaster. Please join us in praying for the man we have called, that he would clearly know the will of the Lord regarding our call, and that the Lord would also continue to make His will known to the board as we move forward, whatever answer we receive.
Concordia Academy’s board has started the call process and anticipates calling a headmaster in early November. Please pray for wisdom for the board and wisdom for the man we call, that he would clearly know God’s will for him.
Save the dates for Concordia Academy’s upcoming fall events! October 2nd, 9:00-11:00 am: An open house for all prospective students and their families, held on the school’s campus (Grace Lutheran, 3310 E Pawnee). November 5th, 7:00 pm: A recital of works for violin, voice, piano, and bowed psaltery performed by Ann Harms and friends at Holy Cross (600 N Greenwich), with a reception following. A free will offering will support Concordia Academy’s capital campaign.
Only a few months into our two-year campaign, 75% of our goal has already been given or pledged! The board is now in discussions about calling a headmaster and recruiting students in earnest for 2022. If you know anyone who might be interested in the only full-time Lutheran high school in Kansas, send them to our website or our Facebook page!
We are pleased to announce that three new members have joined our board of directors! They are Dick Lewallen and Rev. Dean Christ of Trinity Lutheran, Wichita, and Rev. Tim Meyer of Christ Lutheran, Eureka. We are so thankful for their willingness to serve our school, the community, and the body of Christ in this capacity.
We also want to thank two departing board members whose terms have concluded, Rev. Thomas Johnson of Faith Lutheran, Derby (who was with us since the beginning of our steering committee days), and our immediate past secretary, Della. We are thankful for the time and effort they put into helping Concordia Academy get its start! Please continue to pray for wisdom and discernment for our board of directors as we work towards opening our doors in the fall of 2022 and educating high school students towards wisdom and virtue in Christ for many years thereafter. |
